William Theodore Walton III, known as Bill Walton, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024, at the age of 71. The NBA announced the tragic news, confirming that the Hall of Fame center had succumbed to a prolonged battle with cancer.

Walton's basketball career was marked by both triumph and controversy. As a member of the UCLA Bruins, Walton led the team to an unprecedented 88-straight victories, an NCAA record. He won two NBA championships with the Portland Trail Blazers and the Boston Celtics.

Despite his on-court achievements, Walton's career was also marred by injuries. He struggled with foot problems throughout his playing days, which ultimately forced him to retire in 1987. Off the court, Walton was known for his outspoken personality and controversial opinions.
